Student Leadership

At Golborne High School, we believe every pupil has the potential to lead. Through a range of leadership opportunities, pupils develop confidence, communication skills, responsibility and the ability to make a positive contribution to school life.

Leadership opportunities include:

School Council

Pupils represent the views of their peers and contribute to school improvement.

Prefects

Our Prefects act as ambassadors for the school and support a range of school events and initiatives.

Form Captains

Form Captains represent their tutor groups and Houses, gathering pupil voice and helping promote participation.

Sports Leaders

Sports Leaders support the organisation and delivery of sporting events and House competitions.

House Representatives

Pupils play an active role in promoting House identity, encouraging participation and contributing towards House success.

Through these opportunities, pupils learn to lead by example while demonstrating our values of Be Kind, Aim High and Work Hard.

Leadership at Golborne High School is not limited to a small number of pupils. We believe every pupil should have opportunities to influence, contribute and lead, enabling them to develop confidence, responsibility and a sense of purpose as members of the Golborne Family.

School Council

At Golborne High School, we are proud of our vibrant and active School Council, which plays a key role in shaping school life and ensuring that pupil voices are heard. Through a democratic election process, representatives from each year group are chosen to represent the views, ideas and priorities of their peers, helping to strengthen our school community and enhance the experiences of all pupils.

The School Council meets fortnightly to discuss matters that are important to pupils and the wider school community. Council representatives gather feedback from Form Captains across all year groups and Houses, ensuring that the views of pupils from each of our five Houses are represented and considered. This enables a wide range of perspectives to be shared and ensures that student voice remains at the heart of decision-making at Golborne High School.

Through regular consultation with pupils, staff and community partners, School Council members contribute to school improvement initiatives, help shape new opportunities and experiences, and work collaboratively to make Golborne High School an even better place to learn and thrive.

Being a School Council representative provides valuable opportunities for pupils to develop leadership, communication and teamwork skills while demonstrating our core values of Be Kind, Aim High and Work Hard. Members learn how to represent others, contribute to meaningful discussions and take an active role in promoting positive change across the school. These experiences help pupils develop confidence, responsibility and a strong sense of belonging within the Golborne Family.

The School Council also plays an important role in supporting charitable and community initiatives. Over the years, pupils have led fundraising activities in support of a range of local and national charities, helping to make a positive difference beyond the school gates while developing social responsibility, empathy and community awareness.

Alongside these charitable initiatives, council members are actively exploring new fundraising opportunities, community projects and partnerships, ensuring that pupils continue to have meaningful opportunities to contribute to causes they care about and make a positive impact on the lives of others.

Through their work, School Council representatives help foster a culture of participation, leadership and service, ensuring that every pupil has the opportunity to be heard, contribute to school life and take pride in being part of the Golborne Family

Prefects

At Golborne High School, the role of a Prefect is a prestigious leadership position that provides pupils with the opportunity to develop confidence, responsibility and valuable life skills while making a positive contribution to the school community. Prefects are proud ambassadors for the school and play an important role in promoting the values and culture that make the Golborne Family so special.

Our Prefects embody our core values of Be Kind, Aim High and Work Hard. They demonstrate leadership, integrity, respect, kindness and a commitment to supporting others. Through their actions, attitudes and example, they help foster a positive environment where all pupils feel valued, supported and encouraged to succeed.

As trusted role models, Prefects uphold the high standards expected at Golborne High School. They take pride in their appearance, attendance, punctuality, conduct and commitment to learning, setting a positive example for younger pupils and representing the school with professionalism and pride.

Prefects contribute to many aspects of school life, supporting staff, assisting with key events and helping to welcome prospective pupils and their families during open events. Through these experiences, they develop important communication, teamwork and organisational skills while strengthening their sense of belonging and service to the school community.

To further develop their leadership skills, Prefects have the opportunity to participate in the annual Prefect Leadership Residential in the Lake District. This experience promotes teamwork, resilience, independence and leadership, while enabling pupils to build lasting relationships with one another and strengthen their contribution to school life.

We expect our Prefects to demonstrate honesty, responsibility and a genuine commitment to both their studies and the wider life of the school. Through their leadership, they help shape our culture, support their peers and inspire others to take pride in being part of the Golborne Family.

This version aligns much more closely with the themes running through the rest of your website: belonging, leadership, pupil voice, service, character development, enrichment, aspiration and contribution to the school community. It also reads more like a personal development and leadership opportunity, which is exactly what inspectors tend to be interested in when looking at student leadership roles.

Form Captains

Form Captains play an important role in supporting their form group and contributing to the wider school community at Golborne High School. They are student leaders who act as positive role models and help to create a friendly, respectful and inclusive environment within their form. Form Captains can support their Form Tutor with day-to-day activities, help communicate important information to other students, and encourage their peers to take part in school events, activities and initiatives.

Being a Form Captain also provides students with an opportunity to develop valuable leadership skills. They are expected to demonstrate responsibility, reliability, good communication and respect for others. Form Captains can help to bring their form together, listen to the ideas and concerns of their peers, and represent their form during school activities and competitions. Through taking on this responsibility, students develop confidence, teamwork, organisation and decision-making skills, while making a positive contribution to school life.

Form Captains are an important link between students and staff. By working closely with their Form Tutor and supporting their peers, they help promote a strong sense of belonging and pride within their form. Their leadership helps ensure that students feel valued, included and encouraged to contribute positively to the school community.

Sports Leaders

Sports leaders are students selected to help with supporting sports activities within the school. They help run organised inter-house sports activities, officiate extracurricular clubs and competitions, and assist teachers with the planning and delivery of sporting events. Sports leaders can also coach and support younger students, helping them develop their skills, confidence, teamwork, and enjoyment of physical activity. Through these roles, students gain valuable experience in communication, organisation, responsibility, and leadership.

Sports leaders also act as positive role models for other students. They are expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship, fairness, respect, and commitment while encouraging others to participate and enjoy sport. By supporting younger students and helping activities run smoothly, sports leaders contribute to a positive sporting environment within the school.
