Enrichment and the Wider Curriculum

Our enrichment programme provides opportunities for pupils to discover new interests, develop talents, build confidence and strengthen their sense of belonging within the Golborne Family.

Through participation in clubs, activities, educational visits, House competitions and leadership opportunities, pupils develop the skills and experiences that prepare them for future success.

HOUSE SYSTEM AND HOUSE COMPETITIONS

At Golborne High School, every pupil is a member of one of our five Houses: Fonteyn, Lennon, Picasso, Shakespeare and Westwood. Throughout their time at school, pupils develop a strong sense of pride, identity and belonging within their House while contributing to the wider Golborne Family.

Each House is named after an inspirational individual who achieved excellence in their chosen field: Margot Fonteyn, John Lennon, Pablo Picasso, William Shakespeare and Vivienne Westwood. Through their creativity, determination, leadership and success, these figures inspire our pupils to be ambitious, pursue their passions and strive to achieve their full potential.

Every year group is made up of two tutor groups within each House, providing pupils with opportunities to build relationships across year groups and strengthen their connection to their House community.

Pupils represent their House by demonstrating our core values of Be Kind, Aim High and Work Hard. Throughout the year, they earn House points, participate in competitions and work together to contribute towards the prestigious House Cup.

House Competitions

House Competitions are a key feature of school life at Golborne High School and play an important role in promoting participation, achievement and a sense of belonging across our school community. Through a full programme of events that runs throughout the academic year, pupils have regular opportunities to represent their House, develop new skills and contribute to the success of their team.

The House system encourages pupils to take pride in being part of their House and strengthens their identity within the wider Golborne Family. Through friendly competition, pupils are inspired to Be Kind, Aim High and Work Hard, earning House points while demonstrating the values that define our school culture.

A wide range of inclusive competitions are held throughout the year, ensuring there are opportunities for all pupils to take part and excel. Activities span our five core enrichment areas and include sporting, academic, creative, cultural and community-based challenges. This variety enables pupils to discover and develop their talents, build confidence, form positive relationships and experience success beyond the classroom.

Student leadership is an integral part of the House Competition programme. Our Sports Leaders support the planning and delivery of events, while Form Captains contribute to team selection and organisation. These opportunities help pupils develop valuable leadership, communication and organisational skills while making a meaningful contribution to school life.

Participation is actively encouraged, with pupils supporting, motivating and celebrating one another throughout each competition. By working together and showing respect, encouragement and sportsmanship, pupils help create a positive and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and able to contribute.

Pupil voice plays an important role in shaping the House Competition programme. Feedback from participants, Form Captains and contributions from the School Council help ensure that events remain relevant, engaging and enjoyable for all pupils. This collaborative approach enables pupils to influence the opportunities available to them and strengthens their connection to the school community.

Through House Competitions, pupils build friendships, develop confidence, celebrate achievement and create lasting memories. Most importantly, they strengthen their sense of pride, identity and belonging, helping to ensure that every pupil feels part of the Golborne Family and truly part of it.
