Briefing on key updates to statutory guidence for schools in England - Keeping Children Safe in Education (2019)
Caring for and Safeguarding our pupils
Caring for our pupils and ensuring their safety is at the heart of everything we do here at Golborne. Therefore, safeguarding our pupils is treated as the highest priority at all times.
There is a dedicated team of staff to look after the welfare of the pupils. Every pupil at Golborne High knows the routes to take if they have a problem, however small.
The school works tirelessly with other partners to ensure the pupils’ needs are met and they have the correct, bespoke package of support for them individually.
The school takes the safeguarding of all staff and pupils extremely seriously and there are policies in place to ensure their safety and well-being at all times. The key policies are as follows:

Keep children safe on the internet is a daunting prospect for parents. As your child grows and becomes more independent, it is only natural that they take this independence online. In our teenage years we explore, try new things and sometimes push boundaries and take risks, this is an essential part of growing up.
With all of the potential that the online world and new technology offers, young people now have access to huge opportunities. They use technology to express themselves, explore, and be creative; it has changed the way they communicate.
The internet has changed all of our lives, and your child has grown up during this change. Many of the things that confuse, baffle or even scare us, are part of the everyday for them. For many of us, this can all be a bit too much.
Whether you’re a technophobe or a technophile, it’s still likely that you’ll be playing catch-up with the way your child is using the internet.
You might wonder whether what they are doing is safe, and you might also be thinking how can I be as good a parent online as I am offline?

It has come to our attention that there is a popular app called ‘Yubo’ formerly known as ‘yellow’. The app is advertised as a dating app for teenagers and it allows users to exchange messages, photos and video chats with complete strangers. Users can even livestream themselves to anyone watching. However there is increasing concern about the lack of safety features on the app. The police are advising parents to talk to their children about the potential risks of using Yubo and about the dangers of sharing too much with a potential stranger. It has been proven that the app is frequently used by adults who wish to cause harm to children by convincing them that they’re also a child. Some young people have even been persuaded to send indecent images of themselves, received highly explicit sexualised images and persuaded to meet face to face.
We urge parents to have a conversation with their children so that they know how to stay safe online.
Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have further questions about this issue.
