Welcome from the Headteacher

I would like to wish you a very warm welcome to our website.

I am delighted and honoured to be the Headteacher of Golborne High School and to be a leader of such an ‘outstanding’ school. I have been Headteacher for almost 9 years now and have been privileged to lead the school into one that is consistently ‘well above’ National average in all performance measures. I was delighted by the latest Ofsted report which judged us as outstanding in all areas. The report reflected the dedication and commitment of the whole school community to providing the very best opportunities for all our children both within and beyond school. The report recognises the family values that make Golborne so special and the fact that “Pupils and staff care deeply about their community”. Golborne is a thriving hub of the Golborne and Lowton community and is oversubscribed year on year. It is the school of choice in the local area.

I consider myself very lucky to interact daily with students who are polite, enthusiastic, ambitious and most importantly, proud to be a part of the Golborne family. This sense of pride is evident in every aspect of day to day life at Golborne High School, from the exemplary standards of uniform and behaviour, both inside and outside the classroom, to the extensive participation in a wide range of extra-curricular activities in the community. This was recognised by Ofsted who described the “plethora of extra-curricular activities available”.

Our aim is very simple: to ensure that all of our pupils dream, ambitious dreams which we make possible. We are determined to ensure that every child in the Golborne and Lowton community believes they can achieve through the consistently inspirational and challenging quality of teaching and learning delivered within an exceptionally nurturing and supportive environment

At the heart of everything we do are the principles of:

Excellence - Quality - Care

Golborne High School is a Foundation Co-operative Trust school at the heart of the local community. We embrace the co-operative trust values of honesty, social responsibility and care. We continue to serve the Lowton and Golborne community by being a beacon of excellence, extending our students learning experiences and opportunities beyond the school gates by widening the current successful partnerships we have established through our GoalCo Trust. We are committed to providing the children of the Lowton and Golborne community with not just an ‘exceptional’ experience within the school community but ‘exceptional’ and enriching opportunities within the wider community, thus preparing them to compete at the highest level locally, nationally and internationally.

At Golborne High School we put every child at the heart of everything we do. We treat every child with the same consideration, commitment and kindness that we would want for our own children.

We have high expectations of our pupils’ behaviour based on a very simple concept, that every child and adult uses good manners at all times, and understands the difference between right and wrong. We have very simple but clear boundaries based on a ‘firm but fair approach’. At Golborne we simply want every pupil to thrive and excel though their love of learning and passion for each subject that they study.

Golborne High School is a learning community where a joy of learning is fostered in every lesson. The expert subject knowledge of our specialist staff, coupled with a culture of constant self-improvement, based on research-led best practice, means that our staff have both an expertise and passion for their subjects. Ofsted praised the “expertise” of staff and their ability to create “highly ambitious” subject curriculums.

Golborne High School is currently an outstanding school (Ofsted 2023) and our aspirations continue to be high. We are committed to ensuring that we deliver an ‘exceptional’ education for the students in the Golborne and Lowton community because this is what they deserve. We are committed to delivering the highest academic standards, to allow our students to realise their aspirational goals. This is a target to which every member of the Golborne school community is committed, and it is a target that we will continue to achieve. I am delighted to lead Golborne High School and am determined to ensure that we continue to be a beacon of excellence in the local community in which all of our pupils not only ‘believe they can achieve’ but do achieve!

One of the areas of school of which I am most proud is our fully inclusive culture. Our recent Ofsted inspection praised our students for being “responsible and respectful citizens” who understand “the importance of equality, diversity and tolerance”. At the heart of all we do is ‘The Golborne Way’ which students and staff ‘live out’ through their actions every day. All students are valued, nurtured and cared for. We reward and celebrate success and nurture our students to be ‘confident and independent’. We pride ourselves in providing expert support for our SEND children who are fully involved in the wider aspects of school life and thrive within a safe and protective environment.

Thank you for taking time to look at our website but I would urge you to come into our school and experience a lively, warm Golborne welcome. Our students love nothing more than showing visitors around our school and sharing the Golborne experience with them. We do not have set days for tours as we are proud of the positive learning experiences that take place on a daily basis. Therefore if you would like to experience life at Golborne High School first hand then please contact the school office to arrange a visit at your earliest convenience. We look forward to welcoming you into the Golborne family.
