We empower every learner to grow into a respectful, confident, and responsible individual by building the knowledge, skills and values they need to navigate friendships, make safe choices, and contribute positively to their community. Our curriculum supports pupils to understand their rights, recognise risks, communicate clearly, and stand up for themselves and others - both online and offline - so they are prepared for the challenges and opportunities of modern life.
At Golborne High School, we have developed an ambitious Citizenship curriculum which aims to enable all pupils to achieve:
1. Holistic Personal Development: The curriculum prioritises the emotional, social, and ethical growth of students, supporting them to navigate real-world challenges with confidence and empathy.
2. Progressive and Inclusive Learning: Students experience a carefully sequenced journey that builds knowledge year-on-year, introducing age-appropriate topics with increasing complexity and relevance to diverse lived experiences.
3. Global and Civic Engagement: Learners are prepared to understand and participate in local and global communities, fostering active citizenship, political literacy, and social responsibility.
The GHS Citizenship curriculum helps pupils to grow as confident, kind and responsible people, building their knowledge each year so they can make good choices and play an active part in their communities and the wider world. Topics of study at KS3 include relationships and First Aid, while KS4 explore drug risk, stress and discrimination.
All pupils participate in weekly Citizenship sessions during their Personal Development Time at the beginning of the day. KS4 pupils also benefit from one hour of Citizenship curriculum time per fortnight, ensuring they leave Golborne High School prepared for the future.
