Head Teacher’s Blog 05-11-2021

A huge welcome back from our first healf-term of the academic year! I hope that everyone had the chance to rest and recouperate. Now we are back and officially on the run up to Christmas, the pupils look very smart in their jumpers which will prove invaluable as the weather turns colder.

Our Year 11 Mocks have been taking place over the previous two weeks, which this year are especially significant in light of the latest announcments around exams in 2022. I have no doubt that over the half-term break they have been working hard on their revision and will receive the outcomes they truly deserve.

We have been busy over the last week or two preparing for Remembrance Day. There is a commemorative display at the front of school for our staff & pupils to see as they enter the building and for passers by to admire. Remembrance Day merchandise including poppies have been on sale for pupils to purchase in the pupil entrance.

Here at Golborne High School, Remembrance Day is celebrated each year and we hold the occasion very dear. Ahead of our two minutes silence the Last Post was played live by Mr Chivers on the trumpet which was absolutely fantastic. We welcomed any pupil who is a member of the cadets to come into school in their uniform and to be part of our Remembrance Assembly. The performance was live streamed throughout the school and I would like to say well done to everybody for showing such respect during our Ceremony of Remembrance.

Sadly COVID has continued to cause disruption. Last term saw an increase in cases in the local & surrounding areas and as a result face coverings have been re-introduced for pupils (unless exempt) in corridors and assemblies. We are grateful to everyone for doing their bit to help, including staff wearing face coverings since returning back in September in communal areas and pupils adapting to the protective measures without a fuss.

Finally, I love to hear about our students’ extracurricular activities I was beyond proud to hear recently about two of our students brilliant successes. The first being one of our Year 7 pupils, Tia signed a contract recently for Manchetser United girls Football Academy. Tia alongside a member of our PE Staff attended an induction evening earlier this week.

Seconly we have Matthew, who has been given the amazing opportunity of signing a scholarship with Warrington Wolves. Conratulations to both Tia & Matthew and we look forward to following their progress.

Our GHS wider curricular time table for this term has been updated and can now be found on our website and social media channels. There are a wide range of clubs & classes available to join!

As always - I look forward to updating you on the events, successes and exciting news throughout the school year. I myself cannot wait to see what each week will bring! You can also stay updated by following us on our Social Media Channels:
