Headteacher’s Blog 29-11-19

This week, the whole school took part in our fantastic ‘World of Work Day’. The day is designed to help our pupils develop an insight into the knowledge and skills they will need when they leave Golborne High School.

The pupils had the opportunity to experience lots of potential career paths and higher education options through activities and presentations from a wide range of professionals. These included Wigan & Leigh College, Winstanley College, Murphy Group, Network Rail, The Army, Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles, Willmott Dixon and many more.

Throughout the day, employers also carried out mock interviews with Year 11, which will prove to be extremely useful for their future.

I would like to say a big thank you to Miss Hugill for putting so much time and effort in to organising the fantastic event. I would also like to extend my thanks to all of the providers who helped to make the day so brilliant for our pupils.

On Wednesday, I had the pleasure of awarding the Tutee of the Month awards. The Tutees of the Month have been identified by their Heads of House for excellent achievements, behaviour or acts of citizenship.

The fantastic winners for November are:

Shakespeare House- Lucie
Fonteyn House- Lexi
Westwood House- Chanita
Lennon House – Aimee
Picasso House- Jessica

Well done everyone! What a fantastic achievement!

This week, our Eco Club have been busy practising their cooking skills after school! Miss Hillidge and her team have enjoyed preparing a variety of vegetarian meals in an attempt to reduce their carbon footprint and to fit in with their current theme of sustainable living. What a brilliant idea! Well done everyone!

This week I am particularly proud of our pupils, as we sent an incredible 220 shoeboxes to Operation Christmas Child. I would like to thank Miss Herbert for organising the Appeal, which was a spectacular success. A special well done goes to Miss Williams and her tutor group, Shakespeare 6, who collected the most boxes for the second year running! I would also like to thank all of our parents, as this would not be possible without your constant support and generosity.

The festive season is now approaching and the annual Great Golborne Christmas Classroom Competition will begin. This is such a splendid celebration of the Christmas period and sees all of our classrooms, offices and corridors festooned with decorations. We always accept any unwanted decorations with open arms.

May I wish you a lovely festive weekend in the sunshine.
