Computing and Business Curriculum Journey

Our new curriculum teaches children Computer Science, Information Technology, and business: teaching them how to code, and how to create their own programs; not just how to work a computer, but how a computer works and how to make it work for you. Computing at Golborne High School links the real world of business with the latest technology looking at the history of development to future prospects.

Your child will learn the fundamental skills of problem solving, networking and communication throughout their journey from primary into secondary education, looking deeper into the internet, programming and physical computing.

When students reach year 9 they will embark on a brand new course made from Information technologies, Computer Science and Business. This course was created to give a taster of each of the option subjects which can be taken as a GCSE or Vocational option. This course is completely unique to Golborne High School and prepares the students for a clearer picture during their option process.

Some students will also complete the new financial education (LiFE) course by the London Institute of Banking & Finance. The LiFE course equips students with invaluable financial awareness and key life skills. Students will complete level 1 and level 2 of the qualification where they will receive a well-recognised certification of completion.

Students will learn a range of different life skills and knowledge that include, your personal finances, money management for your generation and your future career.

In year 10, your child can choose between GCSE Computer Science, Cambridge Nationals Information Technologies or BTEC Business which opens doors to many post 16 opportunities in the ever changing world we live in, whether this be further education, ‘on the job’ learning or full time work.

Your child will have an opportunity to join the coding club as part of extra-curricular activities to boost their coding skills as well as meeting new friends.
