Golborne High is a school at the heart of the local community.
Links with primary schools and colleges
We have excellent working relationships with our local primary schools who we work with on a regular basis to provide high quality support. Our links with the local colleges are strong and we regularly organise visits for taster days, competitions, subject sampling and sporting activities.
The Wetlands and Local Community Groups
We are very proud that our school is used by local community groups, sports groups and local schools. Our recently built Wetlands provides unique opportunities for members of the public to look at the plants, waterways and pond life areas which are set to thrive over the coming years. It is a fabulous resource which enables the pupils and wider community to benefit from this natural world built within our school grounds.
Local Businesses and Organisations
Golborne High school also has strong links with local businesses and organisations and our pupils are actively involved and encouraged to take part in initiatives that contribute to these close working relationships.
Our ongoing work with the engineering company Murphy’s has enabled our pupils to see how the team have constructed and built our Wetlands area.
We recently organised our first Family Fun Day which was very well attended by members of the local community as well as local companies who provided many of the prizes and donations on the day. We also have close links with the Newton Le Willows Rotary club and have had success with them in a recent photography competition.
The school has previously raised money for charities such as ‘Young Minds Mental Health’, ‘Christies Cancer Research Hospital’ and ‘Wigan and Leigh Hospice’. Our most successful charity raising event however has always been our Christmas charity, ‘Operation Christmas Child’. Operation Christmas Child is a charity that sends filled shoeboxes over to underdeveloped or poor countries for children to open on Christmas day. For some children, this is the only gift they will receive. The pupils at Golborne high school have the biggest hearts and have always ensured they put others before themselves and help. This has successfully led to multiple filled shoeboxes being collected and a substantial amount of money being raised for the charity. Over the past two years Golborne High have sent 320 shoeboxes and raised £1800 for this amazing charity.
